Legend

Written by Marie Lu

Genre: Action/Sci-fi

Rating: 7.0/10

“Legend” written by Marie Lu is part of an ongoing trilogy that “Doesn’t merely survive the hype, but deserves it” according to the New York Times. Set in the near future, it is set in what was once the Western United States, but is now “The Republic”, a new nation that is perpetually at war with its neighboring countries. Day is the Republic’s most wanted criminal, who was born in the slums. June is a prodigy that is born into a wealthy life, being a bright future prospect for the Republic. They live in completely different situations and yet, when Day is the prime suspect of the death of Metias, who is June’s brother, Day is hard pressed to protect himself and his family from June seeking revenge.

This book would be a good read for anyone over the age of 10, as it is a compelling story that is action packed and engaging. The book has two very well developed protagonists and has a very good setting to suit the two characters and the story is successful in putting the two of them in different situations, to make it easier for the readers to understand the two of them. This book is a great start to the Legend series and has everything from action to science fiction that would make all young readers want to keep reading.
