Review "Maximum Ride" by James Patterson

Maximum Ride

Written by James Patterson

Genre: Action/Sci-Fi

Rating: 9/10

New York Times bestseller, “Maximum Ride”, written by James Patterson is a action packed book full of surprises and fights. The story is centered around the protagonist, Max, and is written in first person. Max, a fourteen year old girl, is given “wings” and she has the ability to fly. Hidden with the rest of her “flock” of friends who escaped from a secret facility that gave them their gifts, but also used them for experimental purposes. Everything seems fine, as they are hidden in the mountains and away from civilization, when the youngest flock member, Angel, is taken away from them. Now Max must lead her flock and rescue Angel, but as she gets closer and closer to her goal, her “things to do list” starts to increase to a point where “Saving the World” is on that list. Will Max be able to cope with the almost impossible tasks or will she have to throw in the towel? Read to find out.

The book is full of exciting and bloody fighting, along with funny moments when the flock are joking around. It would be a great read for Year 8 or 9 students and above. The book will sometimes have you scared to turn the page and see what will happen next, and in other times will have you laughing on the floor. Read to the end to see the compelling narrative conclude to the most unexpected ending.
